Next weekend I will be traveling to Dronero in Valle Maira, Cuneo province, Piedmont, Italy for the 2012 Rassegna del Cavalli di Meréns. I’m excited!! In the meantime I’d like to show you some photos from Giornata del Cavallo di Merens (Day of the Merens Horse) in Sampèyre (Cuneo) which I attended in September 2010.
The 2010 show and breed certification took place in the center of Sampèyre. On the day before stallions, mares, and young stock were judged.
Children love the horses and are always so enthusiastic to give them a bit of hay to eat. And the horses are so sweet when they are with children–so natural. I too as a child was so in love with horses and cherished every moment around them, whatever it was, feeding, grooming, riding or just hanging arounf them.
It was a lovely September Sunday. The morning was crisp and cool, so typical of autumn. Gorgeous black Merens horses were all lined up at the show venue for everyone to enjoy. Later in the day some of the Mérens horses were shown in hand and ridden in the arena.
Next weekend Dronero is on my schedule. It will certainly be another beautiful day in one of the most picuresque areas of Piedmont. Be sure to visit my blog again, as I will be posting from this year’s show.
